B&P celebrates 140 years with the MB Tricolor Vintage

This year 2025, we have reached 140 years of history of the B&P brand and 96 years of loading the legendary MB Tricolor cartridge. The highlights of the two realities characterized by these dates are, a performance excellence of the company and of our powders and cartridges, which give as a direct effect an extraordinary charismatic value, because B&P has always been synonymous with Top quality.

Let's turn back for a moment and look behind us, at our past. We realize that Time has been a gentleman, because with victorious results of great prestige in the most important shooting competitions and in the most beautiful hunting realities, it has consecrated as "certainties", the powders and the Baschieri & Pellagri shotshells, since the dawn, from the era of the legendary red powder Acapnia, from which it all began in 1885.

MB Tricolor is therefore the most striking emblem of our past and the longest-lasting of our success; the MB powder and the MB Tricolor cartridge were born in 1929, well, already in 1930 this winning couple, defeated all the most fearsome and aggressive competitors in the main European pigeon shooting competitions, from the legendary Monaco Grand Prix, to the many World Championships at the Melbourne Olympics in 1956.

Among the hunting cartridges, the Tricolor has never been missing from the most prestigious line of the B&P brand. It continues to be the reference cartridge for hare hunters and more generally the brightest star in hunts of great importance.

The new Limited Edition Vintage 2025

With this year 2025, B&P intends to surprise its lover users with a tangible sign of gratitude, for their unwavering trust and for a preference that has never been repudiated over the decades.
Among the B&P cartridges that will be presented in 2025, we will find the Tricolor in a special triptych of the Vintage Line, in three different colors and numbers, for the occasion returned to its original paper dress, red, green blue and beige.

When in 1929, the newly born MB Tricolor cartridge appeared on shooting ranges and in hunting shops, its first feature, new and with a strong impact on shooters and hunters, was its differentiation into three seasonal loads: summer, autumn and winter. Three MB ammo, distinguished by the color of the paper hull: red, green blue, and beige-havana.

Technical Analysis and Legacy of the MB Tricolor

The new MB Tricolor Vintage 2025 line takes up this original philosophy and adapts it to current times, to the ballistics that have improved significantly over these almost 100 years and to modern components with effective and perfect plastic seals.

Let's start with a small explanation by saying that today, considering the still high dynamic level of modern cartridges and their pressure much higher than the 500 bar of 1929, it would have been anachronistic and of minimal utility for hunting use to propose three sequential and scalar loading of the powder MB, given that today's loads still have a strong reserve of energy, pressure and speed.

We therefore thought of creating three different cartridges that we can still consider calibrated on seasonal differences while maintaining the traditional historical philosophy, as then identifiable by the color of the case.

The blue MB Tricolor 35 grams

The MB Tricolor 35 grams paper tube blue, high metallic protection, designed for late summer and autumn climate, perfect in the hunt opening period, effective and very versatile, usable in all hunts, both for the major migratory wood pigeons and doves, and for first shot to pheasants and rabbits, partridges and rock partridges with a pointing dog.

The MB Tricolor blue is a good choice for woodcock, where the No. 8 shot (2.3 mm) and fiber wad finds an adequate ballistics. Not heavy on the shoulder, with its medium weight payload, it can be used without stress even in medium/light over under and side-by-side shotgun or light semiautos. Classic composition with MBx32 powder, couvette, fiber wad (vegetable felt) and hardened lead. Roll crimp closure on disk with the traditional round edge.

The havana MB Tricolor 36 grams

The MB Tricolor Havana load 36 grams of hardened shot of No. 6 (2.7 mm) has a muzzle velocity of approximately 405 m/s and just over 740 bar of pressure. It uses the same MBx32 as the lighter MB Tricolor blue and the same set-up and closure.

The new MB Tricolor series ends with the cartridge loaded inside hulls with red tube and 37 grams of hardened and nickel-plated lead shot of No. 5 (2.9 mm), highly suitable for upland game, including hare, and above all for its ideal power in winter cold and humid weather, but also effective on any large game, including ducks if hunted from hides far from water in the middle of the corn stubble.
